Once you have perused the Noticeboard for funding opportunities, an additional avenue to pursue is to approach your supervisor and/or head of department for funding support. Funds may be available for specific research programmes or projects. Refer also to section 4 of booklet 14

Please note:

  • PG research scholarships cannot be processed unless a student is registered for the degree for which the scholarship is offered.
  • Similarly a PG research scholarship cannot be processed if an active UCT student fee account has not been generated.

Cash allowance

  1. If the PG Research award process is not yet complete and the student is in urgent need of funds for living expenses, a cash allowance form – PG018 may be completed for a minimum of R10 000. The PG018 authorises a cash allowance against a guaranteed fellowship/scholarship/bursary. The form may be downloaded from the UCT administrative forms page.
  2. The PG018 form signed by both the student and the fund-holder must be returned, by the fund-holder, via email to pfodept-awards@uct.ac.za for processing via the student's fees account.
  3. IF eligible and approved by the PGFO, the funds will be refunded to the student's personal bank account.
  4. Students must ensure that their South African transactional bank details have been captured on their PeopleSoft self-service profile.
  5. Cash allowances cannot be processed unless a student is registered for the degree for which the scholarship is offered.
  6. A cash allowance cannot be processed if an active UCT student fee account has not been generated.
